10 ways to decorate on a budget

June 16, 2015

As a home decor nut and budget-mindful college student, I am always looking for fun ways to spruce up my space without feeling guilty about spending a fortune! I've come to realize that part of the fun in decorating is finding a way to "cheat the system". I love gaining inspiration from high profile magazines and architectural blogs, and then working to create a similar look on a budget. Here are some of my favorite ways you can easily add some character to your space without taking out a second mortgage!

1. Use vintage books from library or garage sales as accent decor on a coffee table or shelf

2. Turn silk scarves into pillow cases for an eclectic and one-of-a-kind pop of color

3. Add some greenery to your space with an inexpensive succulent garden

4. Fill a simple glass vase with different candies for a centerpiece that is equal parts delicious and appealing!

5. Keep the walls neutral while highlighting one wall with a unique wallpaper print or mural

6. Display your favorite jewelry pieces for a personal touch that will be seen in home or when you head out for your day

7. Take some B&W snapshots of your furry friend(s) and have them blown up and printed at your local drugstore. Artwork that holds a special place in your heart = 2 paws up!

8. Clean and remove the labels from glass beer or soda bottles to display your favorite summer flowers

9. String twine across the wall and use colorful clothespins to display photos and cute cards across the line

10. Dedicate a corner of your room to a clothing rack that displays a few of your favorite wardrobe pieces for that season

Do you have any tips or tricks when it comes to decorating on a budget? I would love to hear them below!
